The Latin America Project

The Latin America Project
Driving force of the relationships between the food industries of Europe and Latin America

Alimentaria devotes a large part of its efforts to the internationalization of the event so that it becomes a meeting point for the food and beverage industries of different parts of the world. An example of this is the Latin America Project that has been successfully held for several years now in collaboration with FIAB, the Federation of Food and Beverages Industries, and which serves as a link between Latin America, Spain and Europe.

The Latin America Project has two main axes: business meetings and the Central American Pavillion.

The purpose of business meetings is to offer more and better business and contact opportunities to food companies, bodies and institutions of Latin America and Spain. These meetings are divided into three blocks, including business cooperation, innovation and technology, and distribution.

Business Cooperation Meetings are business rounds between Spanish and EU companies with Latin American actors. The goal is to reach technological and know-how transfer agreements, as well as license assignments, crossed marketing of products, joint ventures and investments.

EU – Latin America Meetings for Science, Technology and Innovation

Alimentaria´s technological sessions try to reinforce and increase the links of the scientific communities of Spain with those of the EU and Latin America, so that advances are shared, food knowledge is disseminated and reinforced, and joint projects are launched. These sessions are completed with a comprehensive program of activities, conferences and meetings sponsored by the main Euro-Latin-American institutions working on the Science and Technology fields. This initiative is led by FIAB and supported by INIA (National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Technology) and other public bodies.

Distribution Meetings: Spain – Latin America

The purpose of these meetings is to encourage trade between Spanish manufacturers – exporters and Latin American distributors – importers of food products. These meetings are supported and sponsored by ICEX.

Central American Pavillion
The Central American Pavillion is a special area in Alimentaria located within the International Pavillion that is exclusively devoted to display products from Central American countries. It is organized in collaboration with AECI, the Spanish International Cooperation Agency.

Institutional support
The Latin America project is sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Spanish International Cooperation Agency (AECI), the Foreign Trade Institute (ICEX) and the National Institute for Agriculture and Food Research and Technology (INIA).
