What started out as an exhibition providing information on Spanish cheeses has evolved into a fully fledged area containing everything from information and sampling sessions to its own restaurant. The Spain of the 100 Cheeses appeared again at a time when consumers are beginning to take a strong interest in Spanish cheeses and their popularity is on the rise.image

Spain's extensive range of cheeses were on display in all its variety in this space with a view to encouraging people to find out more about them and revealing the broad spectrum of different types, flavours, textures and Designations of Origin the country has to offer.

Spain produces over 100 different cheeses, 17 of which are protected by Designations of Origin. In the Spanish cheese industry, traditional ways of cheese-making exist side by side with large and medium-sized facilities where technology predominates.

Manchego, Idiazábal, Burgos, Mahón and Tetilla are five of the best known varieties of Spanish cheeses, but not the only ones. In fact, cheese connoisseurs are currently making a bid to bring back and publicise cheeses produced in small rural communities that have remained virtually unknown for centuries, This rediscovery of the rich variety of Spanish cheeses is taking place at the same time as companies and institutions are making a big effort to promote and sell these products abroad.
