Alimentaria 2008 celebrated the 7th International Conference on the Mediterranean Diet

Spain holds an important food secret: the Mediterranean Diet. Endorsed by many scientists, this philosophy encourages a healthy and balanced way of life. The International Conference on Mediterranean Diet tries to promote this dietary pattern on an international scale. More than 200 specialists from around the world got together on the occasion of the Alimentaria Food and Beverages Exhibition to discuss the results of the latest research on the matter and the keys to effectively disseminate such information.

For more than a decade, Alimentaria has been striving to provide up-to-date information on the Mediterranean Diet, raise awareness of its beneficial effects on health and support policies that ensure its survival and promotion. In various encounters, including round table discussions and keynote sessions, speakers and participants worked together to map out ways that will make it possible to accurately disseminate one of the healthiest eating habits currently known.

To this end, experts in the fields of nutrition, food safety, medicine, epidemiology, communication and nutritional policies will meet to debate the latest findings in the study of the Mediterranean Diet.

Mediterranean diet - Cultural Immaterial Patrimony of the Humanity of the UNESCO?
During the celebration of the 7th International Conference on the Mediterranean Diet, Spain and Italy presented the candidacy of the Mediterranean Diet to turn Cultural Immaterial Patrimony of the Humanity of the UNESCO. The Minister of Agriculture, Fishing and Nourishment, Elena Espinosa and her Italian counterpart, Paolo of Castro; they assured that Alimentaria 2008 was the best scene to announce all the public in general this project of candidacy. 

The Village
To complete the academic vocation of the meeting, the Village of Alimentaria took charge taking to the practice the premises developed during the Congress. The chef Pere Massana, of the restaurant Cal Pere del Masset de Sant Pau d'Ordal was at the head of this restaurant created for the occasion in Alimentaria.
