The Study aims to provide an in-depth look at today's consumer and paint a precise portrait of the demands of consumers in the near future: understand their buying habits, the reasons behind their choices at an establishment and their behaviour when in front of store shelves. The conclusions of this study will be put into practice in the Future Shop.
The International Food Forum, created in 1996, has regularly informed industry professionals of the results of key research into matters affecting the food industry. The forum is thus an area for meeting, thinking about and discussing the upcoming challenges facing the industry, the distribution sector and the agri-food business, as well as the societal changes affecting distribution and consumption.
To carry out this project, researchers conducted more than 80 in-depth interviews with future shoppers (trend-setters), 8 focus groups and 16 accompanied shopping trips. Furthermore, a complete study was performed of more than six million shopping registries from the past three years, as well as daily contact with 16,000 panellists and the completion of 8,000 questionnaires regarding the attitudes and preferences of today’s buyers.
The Future Shop
The conclusions of this important research project will be put into practice at the Future Shop, a spectacular showcase for the latest developments and trends in distribution, as well as a service centre: sustainable, accessible and efficient points of sale that will transform distribution in the future.
