The Future Shop: the retailer of 2012?

19/02/2008
Alimentaria 2008 presents a pioneering project for the distribution sector: the Future Shop. Located in the Area of Innovation, Innoval, this installation offers an imaginative and spectacular vision of the retailer of the future - based on current and emerging technologies and innovations in distribution.

The Future Shop project will reflect the increasing interest of the food industry in Research & Development, especially at the point of sale. Many of the ideas brought to life here come from the findings of a specially-commissioned study Demands of the buyer of the future, carried out by consultacy TNS (Taylor Nelson Sofres) on behalf of Alimentaria 2008. You can learn more about this research at the VII International Food Forum.

The winners of the National Prize of Design, Pati Nuñez and Toni Arola, will create a spectacular installation within the Future Shop area.

Future Shop will focus on how the points of sale of the future can better reflect and serve the changing demands of consumers, who may become increasingly demanding of high-quality, personalised service.

A multitude of innovations
The Future Shop will feature innovations and new technologies available now, many of which focus on giving the consumer a more personalised experience. Bizerba will exhibit its electronic intelligent scales, which include messages of interest for the client, while Vicaimport has developed a new wine dispenser which allows the consumer to select the type of wine that he prefers.

Some of the most innovative developments areto be found in advertising and the food marketing also is present in the Future Shop. Specialthings presents IMAGEPRO3D, a system that projects a three dimensional image that seems to float in the air - a completely new way to capture consumer interest. Another innovator, Famori, will demonstrate its interactive carpet, capable of changing the message that it projects whenever it detects a movement.

With consumers increasingly interested in food safety, meat company Espuña will demonstrate its commitment to traceability, gving consumers the opportunity to see the progress of a product from field to plate. Pinesga will show a range of designer disposable crockery, while Design for All will demonstrate the advances in improving accessibility for people with disabilities. Finally, you can see Azkoyen's latest vending machines, Checkpoint's safety systems and Smeva's refrigeration solutions.
