Vegefruit, a show featuring new trends in consumption

17/01/2008
The Mediterranean Diet's return to prominence and consumers' growing desire to lead a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle are two keys to the buoyant state of the fruit and vegetable industry. Meanwhile, today's fast-paced lifestyle and a breakdown in the transmission of traditional cooking skills are favouring the success of fresh-cut and ready-to-eat foods. Vegefruit is the show at Alimentaria 2008 where - in over 1,000m2 - health and convenience find their maximum expression.

Vegefruit, Alimentaria's fresh fruit and vegetable show, devotes 1,000m2 of exhibition space to fruit and vegetable products. From exotic products and tubers to fungi, mushrooms and vegetables with a designation of origin, all of the market's freshest vegetable products will be present in this exhibition area.

Fresh-cut products –which are pre-washed and sliced- and ready meals –heat-processed, cooked, pasteurised and sterilised foods which, using various ingredients, make up a ready-made meal- will also be the stars of Vegefruit 2008. Such products represent healthy options adapted to the nutritional needs of a society in which time has become one of the most highly prized commodities.

Fresh-cut salads, vegetable-based ready meals, pre-washed and pre-cut fruit, single servings... Vegefruit will showcase the originality with which the fruit and vegetable industry is preparing to meet the consumers’ needs.

Exotic fruit and vegetables and single-serving containers are two more keys to the sector's future. Increased immigration and smaller households are responsible for these trends.

In addition to Spanish companies, Vegefruit will also welcome producers from other countries with longstanding agricultural traditions such as Turkey, Portugal and Holland, among others.
