A true journey through the different varieties of Spanish cheese
Spain, the Country of 100 Cheeses is one of the longest-established activities at Alimentaria. Seeking out the most novel and innovative varieties to present them to visitors is one of the main aims of this activity, which is once again headed by the expert cheese maker Enric Canut.
Spain, the Country of 100 Cheeses, is one of the points of reference for all professionals at Alimentaria. The exhibition presents primarily artisan products from a sector which also has a significant industrial component. Visitors can sample different types of cheese, which can also be matched with wines, breads and crudités.
The exhibition composed by a hundred of varieties, will be articulated in this edition around four axes axles, fulfilling the authentic one "Who’s who" of the cheese national panorama.
- D.O.P's: Twenty-five protected denominations of origin that spread over the whole Spanish territory, with three milks and his mixtures, and the practical totality of the big cheese families of the country. Cheeses as the Casín, Gamonedo or Idiazábal will be present in Alimentaria 2010.
- I.G.P's: The geographical protected indications and some marks of quality or of guarantee that group other traditional cheeses, as the cheese Garrotxa or the marks Arribes de Salamanca, Queso de oveja churra, Queso Ibérico, Queso Hispánico, Queso de la Mesta, Queso de Teruel, Queso Extxegárate, or the black and green etiquettes in the Idiazábal craftsman.
- Ecological Cheeses: Cheeses assigned to any of the Regulatory Councils of Ecological Agriculture existing (CRAE's) to autonomous or state level. It is one of the routes of growth of the Spanish agro industry at present. Varieties like the Sujaira or the Fuentillezjos will be some of that will be able to be tasted.
- The groups: The professional, basically territorial and autonomous groups of the Spanish cheesemakers, but also the big associations of the country. Offers like the torta de oveja de Navalmoral de la Mata or Mahón-Menorca Cheese will be able to reveal in Spain, Land of 100 Cheeses.
