Driving knowledge of Halal products

The market for Halal food (which relates to the series of practices, services and products permitted by the Muslim religion) is growing apace in Europe and the rest of the world.
There are currently 1.7 billion Muslim consumers worldwide, around 25% of the world's population, and it is expected that there will be 2.2 billion by 2030. In Europe, over 6% of the population is Muslim, with major demographic growth of one per cent per decade according to the Pew Research Center.

Halal products currently represent 16% of worldwide consumption of food and beverages, contributing more than 40 billion euros to the EU economy, according to the 2015 figures from the services company SGS.
The cross-cutting nature of the Halal concept and its rapid growth offer excellent business opportunities for the food industry. Alimentaria 2018 is strategically placed to satisfy the growing demand in the Halal segment in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

Alimentaria 2018 will be promoting knowledge of Halal products

In the certain knowledge that the Halal certificate facilitates customer loyalty among the Muslim population, adds product value, guarantees quality and represents a source of business for Spanish companies (around 350 Spanish companies are now certified), Alimentaria 2018 will be resuming the Halal project that it started in 2016. In addition to showcasing existing Halal products at the trade show, it will be carrying out actions to promote and disseminate the breadth of this segment of food products.
The Halal project at Alimentaria 2018 will consist of three sections:

Exhibition space

An exhibition area in the Multiple Foods show area (Hall 2) with two participation options for exhibitors:

  • An area of stands featuring companies in this segment.
  • Showcases of Halal products from companies exhibiting in other parts of the show.

Halal Congress

The second International Halal Congress at Alimentaria will give continuity to the achievements of the previous edition. The congress is divided into two sessions:

  • The first will present the main figures and trends in the growing Halal segment at an international level along with specific success stories.
  • The second will focus on branding and marketing directed at Muslim markets, analysing strategies to improve the penetration of these products among Muslim consumers.

Show-cooking sessions

There will be two show-cooking demos in The Alimentaria Experience by expert chefs, giving visibility and media coverage to the presence of Halal products at the show.


Alimentaria 2018 will also be welcoming more than 30 Hosted Buyers interested in Halal agri-food products from some of the European markets with the largest numbers of Muslim consumers, such as Germany, France and Turkey, amongst others.
This project is one of the most attractive features of the show and offers a great opportunity to strengthen the positioning of Halal companies and products. Through these initiatives we hope to provide extra visibility and boost the number of exhibitors with Halal certification, generating more contacts and business opportunities.
The trade show will also have a special prayer area duly equipped and signposted for the Muslim community.
